Ms. Karen Taylor-Fletcher was born on August 16, 1961 in Detroit, Michigan. Raised in the “Motor City”, Ms. Taylor (Fletcher) grew up as an only child of two doctors. She was raised in a strong and connected Family environment, where all loved the music, culture, good vibes, and food of the Motor City.
Ms. Fletcher is a graduate of Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio (Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Economics.) and a graduate of Averett University (Master’s in Business Administration). Ms. Fletcher had much promise for the future, and progressed in her career through developmental assignments and opportunities. Noteworthy, Ms. Fletcher was selected to attend the Information Resource Management College (IRMC) at Fort McNair (across from the War College) in Washington, DC, where she earned her post-graduate certification in Chief Information Officer.
Ms. Fletcher has held several assignments throughout her career; many of which included positions of leadership and independent management roles across the Department of the Army. Ms. Fletcher has proudly parented and nurtured 11 children, 3 biological and 8 non-biological children (not all at the same time). She is the loving grandmother of eight children. Serving as an inspiration and motivation to young adults, Ms. Fletcher is an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Ms. Fletcher is an active and participating member of the Welcoming Lights; the Virginia One Church, One Child Adoption Agency; Adore Children and Family Services; Toastmasters International; and, Global Television Network.
In 2007, Ms. Fletcher became a business owner, starting the Taylor-Fletcher Investment Group, LLC. As a minority and female-owned business, Taylor-Fletcher Investment Group, Inc. invests in real estate and development projects, primarily purchasing acreage and lots of land to build homes and create housing for underserved areas.
Over the years, Ms. Fletcher has won three- first place, and one- second place awards in the Fairfax County Baptist Sunday School Oratorical Competition. She has also won several speaking competitions in the local Toastmasters, served as a presenter at various programs, is an anchor on a Global Television Network on a Fox 5 Plus channel for a segment called Children of God and Investing in People and in Property. Most recently, she is a featured recording vocalist on the Gospel album, Halleluiah.
Steadfast in her commitment to ensuring that children in the foster care system have safe and adequate housing, she is a representative and educator on behalf of the Northern Virginia Assembly for Foster Care and Adoption; hosting multiple state-level certification classes and events for families who are interested in adopting. As she transitions from Federal service, not desiring to settle into retirement too quickly, Ms. Fletcher is pursuing a career in voiceover. In September 2019, Ms. Fletcher is a published author. Her first book is entitled, The Silence of Ray.
The book is a memoir about a strong and energetic young man who must learn to deal with life while coping with autism. It also shares the challenges and struggles faced by his family while caring for this young man.
Ms. Fletcher is wrapping up a long, illustrious career of 31 years of Federal service, ending her tour of duty here, at the Pentagon, Arlington VA.
